SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Textures of Time by Beatrice Glow
DESCRIPTION:Artist Talk: Textures of Time by Beatrice Glow \n\n\n\nJoin Emerson Contemporary for an artist talk with Beatrice Glow\, whose research-driven practice explores how histories of empire\, migration\, trade\, and cultural exchange continue to shape the present. Doors open at 6pm\, talk starts at 6:30pm. \n\n\n\nGlow will discuss Textures of Time\, currently on view in Thin Places\, as well as her broader practice\, which begins in archives\, museum collections\, and field research. Working across sculpture\, installation\, video\, performance\, and scent\, Glow transforms historical research into sensory and speculative experiences that invite us to reconsider whose histories are preserved\, how they are remembered\, and how they might be imagined differently. \n\n\n\nAn American artist of Taiwanese heritage\, Glow works in sustained collaboration with Indigenous culture bearers\, researchers\, and museum collections across Asia\, the Americas\, and Europe. Her projects have been presented at The New York Historical\, Baltimore Museum of Art\, Western Australia Shipwrecks Museum\, Park Avenue Armory\, and the Honolulu Biennial\, among others. \n\n\n\nIn conversation with Thin Places\, Glow will consider how objects can carry histories across time and how archives\, digital technologies\, and artistic imagination can become thresholds between past and present. \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public. Location: Media Art Gallery\, 25 Avery Street\, Boston\, Ma

SUMMARY:How Do You Imagine the Universe? Artists Megan and Murray McMillan in conversation with Astrophysicist Gonzalo
DESCRIPTION:Join Emerson Contemporary for a conversation between artists Megan and Murray McMillan and astrophysicist Gonzalo Herrera Moreno\, a Neutrino Theory Network Fellow at MIT and Harvard. Co-hosted by creativity@emerson. Doors open at 6pm\, talk starts at 6:30pm. \n\n\n\nAt the heart of their conversation is a shared question: How do creativity and imagination help us understand what we cannot directly see or experience? The McMillans’ This Collapsed and Expanding Breath (2025–26) draws on stellar collapse\, supernovae\, gravity\, and pulsars\, transforming complex scientific concepts into an imaginative\, multisensory experience. Herrera Moreno’s research similarly asks us to imagine phenomena at scales and distances far beyond everyday human experience. \n\n\n\nBringing artistic and scientific practices into dialogue\, the conversation will explore how artists and scientists use curiosity\, intuition\, models\, experimentation\, and imagination to investigate the unknown and how creative thinking can open new ways of seeing and understanding our universe. \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public. Location: Media Art Gallery\, 25 Avery Street\, Boston\, Ma

SUMMARY:Keiken
DESCRIPTION:Keiken (経験)\, meaning “experience” in Japanese\, is an artist collective that pioneers a collaborative approach to creating immersive worlds through embodied\, empathetic technologies\, and deep world-building. In using speculative and participatory storytelling\, they blend science fiction\, consciousness research\, gaming\, and emerging technologies to create experiences where the digital and physical merge\, and where audiences step inside alternative realities.  \n\n\n\nThrough these experiences\, visitors encounter contemporary Japanese perspectives on some of the most pressing questions facing societies today. In their first U.S. presentation\, Keiken’s artistic practice explores lived experience\, perception\, and what it means to be human in an increasingly digital and post-human era. Rather than accepting dominant narratives about the future\, the collective creates immersive environments that allow audiences to role-play alternative forms of existence\, test new social structures\, and imagine different relationships between technology\, ecology\, and community. \n\n\n\nInternationally recognized for their innovative artistic practice\, Keiken received the Chanel Next Prize in 2021 and the Lumen Prize in 2024. Their work has been presented at major international venues including the Venice Architecture Biennale\, MUNCH in Oslo\, and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa\, Japan\, and the collective has served as artist-in-residence at Somerset House in London.
